This is Dylan's first release since 2006's Modern Times, and his fans will not be disappointed. Unlike his earlier career and the beginning of his stardom, this artist has become a seasoned professional at crafting tunes that are subtle yet effective. From the first track, "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'", all the way through the closing song, "It's All Good", this musician shows why he remains one of the most powerful artists today. Despite having been at it for decades at this point, the man who made his name performing folk music continues to perform a couple hundred live shows per year; and his ability to still come up with music that matters is truly amazing.
Together Through Life differs from previous Dylan releases in that it seems like the CD was quickly put together. This was Dylan's intention as he wanted a live music sound. Otherwise, it is familiar territory, for fans.
Much of the album follows classic blues and soul numbers, the oldest influence being "Forgetful Heart", which is inspired by a 1679 opus called "A Treatise of the Fear of God". His other inspiration from the oldest book around; The Bible and its Old Testament.
Together Through Life is a worthwhile CD to listen to. It has enough variety to please old fans and new ones. Bob Dylan is truly a living legend, and continues to deliver after all these years.
